Volume Profile Mean Reversion Strategy with Tape Speed Confirmation for Cryptocurrency Futures Markets A 5-Year Backtest Study on SOL/USDT Perpetual Contracts

This study presents a quantitative analysis of an intraday mean reversion trading strategy applied to SOL/USDT perpetual futures on the Binance exchange. The strategy utilizes previous-day Volume Profile levels (Value Area High, Value Area Low, Point of Control) as context for trade entries, with current-day Point of Control as the profit target. Trade confirmation is provided by a novel "Tape Speed" indicator measuring volume-weighted price momentum. A comprehensive 5-year backtest (1,825 trading days, 525,600 five-minute candles) with realistic Binance Futures transaction costs (0.05% maker entry, 0.05% taker exit, 0.02% slippage per side) reveals that a 0.15% stop-loss configuration is mathematically unviable due to transaction costs consuming 93% of the risk allocation. Stop-loss levels of 1.0% to 2.0% demonstrate statistically significant profitability with Sharpe ratios exceeding 2.0 and profit factors above 2.5.
