Paediatric Transplantation

Organ size is of utmost importance in pediatric transplantation. The majority of children reach end-stage disease before 2 years of age, whereas relatively few do so between the ages of 2 and 10 years. There is a second mortality peak after age 10 that extends into adulthood. The pattern of mortality from liver disease is in contrast to the epidemiological factors of accidents, which involve mainly preschool and school-age children.
