Surgical Site Infection in Orthopedics: Epidemiological Profile, Risk Factors, And Underreporting at A Regional Hospital in The Federal District, Brazil

Objective: To investigate cases of surgical site infection (SSI) following orthopedic surgery at Hospital Regional de Sobradinho, Federal District, Brazil. Methods: A historical retrospective cohort study was conducted through review of 655 medical records of patients who underwent orthopedic surgical procedures between January and December 2024. After application of the eligibility criteria, 419 procedures classified as clean surgeries were included. The epidemiological profile was characterized by descriptive analysis, and SSI incidence was calculated. Incidence identified through medical record review was compared with epidemiological surveillance data recorded by the Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC) of the same institution.
