Antiangiogenic Analysis of Selected Medicinal Plants Found in Pampanga, Philippines

Angiogenesis is the process through which blood vessels develop from the pre-existing vasculature. It occurs in both health and sickness throughout life, starting in utero and continuing until old age. Dracontomelon dao, Terminalia catappa, and Ziziphus talanai were examined for their potential to inhibit angiogenesis. Egg candling was used to determine the fertilized eggs. In order to identify the position of the blood vessels, each was marked with a circle using a pencil. Five groups of samples were created and triplicates of the administration were completed. Using the program ImageJ, the suppression of blood vessel creation was assessed. The membranes were captured on camera and examined up close to make comparisons with the initial observation. One-way ANOVA was used to assess the variance between concentrations, and the significant differences were examined using Tukey's post-hoc test (p < 0.05). As a confirmation test for the results of the CAM assay quantification, the Drabkin reagent test was conducted. The study found that Dracontomelon dao, Terminalia catappa, and Ziziphus talanai contain phytochemicals like anthraquinones, alkaloids, and flavonoids. However, neither plant extracts showed antiangiogenic properties in the chorioallantoic membrane assay. The D. dao treatment showed significant angiogenesis inhibition at 50μg/mL, while the Z. talanai treatment showed significant differences at 100μg/mL. Based on the analysis of variance, the study found that neither plant extract had the best antiangiogenic potential. The study's results suggest that other factors, such as duck egg days, incubation duration, humidity, and temperature, could contribute to the rotting of eggs.
