Autonomic Recovery, Reserve and Breakthrough- An 18-Year Longitudinal Perspective on Multifactorial Secondary Autonomic Dysfunction, Selective Recovery, Postoperative Reserve, Breakthrough and Re-Stabilisation
Author(s): Bruce H. Knox*
Background: Substantial functional recovery from autonomic dysfunction can coexist with persistent limits in cardiovascular regulation, physiological reserve and recovery from unexpected challenge. This autobiographical longitudinal perspective examines the course from prolonged multisystem dysregulation to selective recovery, then considers how surgery or other systemic stress may temporarily reduce accessible reserve and how that reserve may subsequently reconstitute. Case trajectory: The course began in 2008–2009 with a probable post-viral and cardiovascular initiating phase, followed by years of orthostatic vulnerability and increasing cardiac burden. On 15 October 2021, an LVOT PVC ablation was complicated by cardiac tamponade, emergency sternotomy, cardiopulmonary bypass and repair. The broadest dysregulation followed in 2022&nda.. Read More»
