Therapeutic Response Rate for Those with Piriformis Muscle Syndrome Treated by Fluoroscopy Guided Botulinum Toxin Injection

Abstract

William Ciurylo and Terence K. Gray

Piriformis syndrome presents as pain in the low back, buttock, groin, and/or posterior thigh due to excessive contraction of the piriformis muscle irritating the sciatic nerve [1-13]. It predominantly is reported to occur in the middle-aged and in women [7,14]. Diagnosis of piriformis syndrome is established using palpation, special tests, and/or local anesthetic and steroid injection [5, 15-17].
