Abstract

Roaa Ali Hawla and Ahmed Al-Asfar

The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between women’s multiple roles and their mental health. To achieve this goal, the descriptive-analytical method was employed using a social survey approach. A questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale was developed to collect data from a sample of 489 participants from the University of Damascus. The data were analyzed using SPSS to identify significant relationships between variables. The findings revealed that participants perform multiple roles across family, professional, and social domains, with a statistically significant negative correlation between role multiplicity and mental health indicators, including emotional balance, happiness, and psychosocial adjustment. Furthermore, marital status and psychological support were found to significantly influence mental health, as higher levels of well-being were observed among married and supported participants compared to widowed, divorced, and unsupported individuals. No statistically significant differences were found based on age or educational level, indicating that the pressure associated with multiple roles outweighs these factors. The study highlights the importance of psychological and social support in reducing stress and emphasizes the need for community awareness and institutional programs to help women manage multiple responsibilities and enhance their mental well-being.
