Contrary to the belief that pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH, or hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, HDP) and preeclampsia are benign conditions that do not extend harm past pregnancy, the evidence is growing that preeclampsia is a risk factor for future cardiovascular disease.
