Cholestasis in Children
Abstract
Sinisa Franjic
Cholestasis is any disorder in which the canalicular flow of bile is reduced. Diseases displaying with cholestasis can be separated into two groups: intrahepatic and extrahepatic cholestasis. In intrahepatic cholestasis, there is a disorder of bile generation or transport at the level of hepatocytes, whereas in extrahepatic cholestasis, the issue emerges in the transport of bile through the bile channels. Cholestasis is displayed with a number of side effects, such as itching, jaundice, neurological symptoms caused by reduced vitamin absorption, dark urine, and light stools.
