Injuries Among Construction Workers

The overall prevalence of injury among building construction workers was 41.4% [95% CI: (37.8, 49.4)] in the past 1 year, where the leading five jobs related injuries reported were injury by object (36.9%), lower back pain (35.6%), falling injury (23.3%), skin disorder (20.1%), and eye problem (18.2%).

Falling from high places is the number one most common construction accident, causing almost 35% of construction injuries. Falling Debris. Tools, building materials, pieces of scaffolding, or other supplies can do serious damage if they fall from significant heights and land on a worker.There are roughly 150,000 construction site accident injuries each year according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The BLS also reported that while falls make up the majority of the construction site accidents, contact with equipment was also a significant cause of injury for workers.

In total, 86 workers died in 2019, a 23 percent increase over the previous year. This is at sharp odds with the Labor Ministry's work plan for 2019, which set a goal of reducing deaths from work accidents by 10 percent.Going by sheer number of on-the-job deaths, truck drivers and sales drivers was by far the most dangerous, accounting for nearly 1,000 (987) deaths in 2017.
